What To Bring

Remember: Do not bring your dog to the first class/orientation of Basic Obedience only- humans only, please!

  1. Proof of rabies, DHPPC (or equivalent), and bordatella vaccination
  2. Flat collar (Can be nylon, cotton or leather. No choke, prong or shock collars please!) or Gentle Leader
  3. A 6 foot cotton, nylon, or leather lead (no flexi-leashes)
  4. Poop bags for clean-up
  5. A hungry dog and a variety of your dog's favorite soft treats, cut into pea-sized pieces

What To Wear

The training area can get very hot during the summer, so please dress accordingly. Shoes must be flat soled and completely “closed-toe” (example: sneakers or boots). PLEASE NOTE: Students who arrive to class in bare feet, or wearing sandals, thongs, flip-flops, or heels will NOT be allowed to participate in class under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Attendance

Orientations are the most important part of our classes! Therefore, all students must attend their scheduled orientation to participate in the class. If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend the orientation, please notify Pawsitive Training as soon as possible to make other arrangements. Students who miss their scheduled orientation (without making prior arrangements) are assumed to have dropped out of the class, and will forfeit their class fee. Please refer to our refund policy for details.

If you miss a session (other than orientation) please contact the trainer to discuss what was covered. Our classes are taught as a series; therefore, drop-ins and make-up classes are not permitted. New students will not be able to join a class after the first session.

Cancellations

If the minimum enrollment for a course is not met 3 days prior to the first class session, Pawsitive Training reserves the right to cancel the course. We will notify you 3 days before the class was scheduled to begin to see if you would like to enroll in an alternative class, receive credit toward a future class, or receive a full refund.

Refund Policy

Refunds can be provided if we are notified at least 5 days before the first class session. Refunds will be provided in the form of a check or credit toward a future class. Check refunds will be sent by mail. If within the first 3 sessions of a class, a dog is unable to attend due to an injury or illness you can receive a 50% credit toward a future class. We regret that no credit or refund can be provided for any reason after the first 3 sessions of a class. There is a $25 fee for all returned checks.

Inclement Weather

While summer conditions usually offer perfect weather for dog training, we acknowledge that the occasional storm can occur. In the event of rain or other weather conditions which may adversely affect training, class will be cancelled and rescheduled for the following week at the same time. Each student will be notified of the cancellation as soon as possible.

Unaltered Dogs

Unaltered dogs are welcome to attend our on-leash classes only. For safety purposes, it is Pawsitive Training’s group class policy that dogs that are not spayed or neutered are prohibited from attending activities where there is off-leash interaction between dogs. Unaltered dogs are more frequently targeted in playgroups by other dogs because of the way they smell. Altercations can ensue, which endanger all dogs present as well as their guardians and Pawsitive Training staff.

Other Information

In order to protect all participants in a class, we reserve the right to decline entry to any dog who presents behavior issues that may be overly dangerous, disruptive, or that may be exacerbated by participation in a group class. If behavior issues are discovered during the class and the trainer determines that it is in everyone's best interest to seek a private trainer, you will be provided with a qualified trainer referral and a full refund.

What do I do if the class I want is full?

Our classes do fill up quickly, so please list your first, second, and third choices on the registration form. We will call you to confirm the class for which you are registered.

What if I can't make the first class / orientation?

Orientation is mandatory for every student! Please register for a class where you will be able to attend the orientation. Since we usually have a waiting list for our classes, students who do not attend orientation will lose their space and forfeit their class fee. Please read our refund policy.

Can other members of my family attend classes with me?

Yes, we encourage anyone who lives with the dog to attend class; it helps with consistency of training.

What if I want to bring my children that are under 12 years old?

One adult must be present to supervise each child under 12. This adult cannot be the same individual as the adult training the dog.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • Example: If a parent wants to bring two children under 12 to group training, they must also bring TWO adults to supervise the children. This helps to reduce the amount of distractions in class.

How many dogs are in each class?

For most of our classes, we limit the number of dogs to five.

See our Course Pricing Overview for pricing details.  Plans and pricing may vary based on the needs of your dog.
